Exchange email size restrictions per user from/to the Internet

Had a question about setting limits for incoming and outgoing email size when sending to or recieving from the internet. This topic is a bit confusing, because there are default limit overrides in a users object in Active Directory Users & Computers. These overrides only apply to INTERNAL mail though. Since all Internet mail has to pass through the SMTP connector, the global settings applied to that connector take precendence. Microsoft has a great KB article that summarizes the settings for limits on email size. Is there a workaround? Well...kinda. You can reverse your thinking such that you raise the global limits, an then set each users limits individually to restrict them down to the smaller size. Then you can allow a single user to have larger limits. Further, even if you have larger limits set on YOUR server, that is not going to help you out with the target of your email. Most other users are going to have about 2mb limit set on their system per email...and that will cause another stopping point. To move large volumes of data, it is probably time to look into another solution. Sharepoint allows uploads up to 50mb by default, and if you are moving data bigger than that, you should look into secured FTP...IMHO.
