Windows log on then immediate log off
Submitted by erichagstrom on Sun, 01/24/2010 - 2:27pm.I was recently assisting a client with an XP machine that was infected and caused the user to no longer be able to login. They system boots to the login screen, and you can input your username/password, but after that the system instantly logged off. Turns out the virus had modified the registry and deleted the Userinit entry in the Winlogon key.
Tftpd32 TFTP Server Windows 7 x64 DHCP fix
Submitted by erichagstrom on Sun, 12/27/2009 - 12:41pm.I recently acquired an Asus EEEPC 1005 HAB and started to work on getting the XP OS installed by default replaced with an Ubuntu image, and a Windows 7 image. I decided to use PXE boot for the installation of the Ubuntu image, and immediatly ran into issues using TFTPD32 on my Windows 7 x64 machine that already existed. I was getting a "PXE-53 Error: No boot filename received" error every time I started the netbook. I could see the DCHP request complete by watching the logs on the TFTP server, but always got the same error.
Recovering "hard" deleted email items
Submitted by erichagstrom on Wed, 10/07/2009 - 10:09am.You are running Exchange 2003 in your organization. You have deleted item retention set up. Your users are trained that they can click on the the Tools\Recover Deleted Items menu item in Outlook and get stuff back that they deleted on accident. But wait...you get a call that there are no items in that list. What gives? Turns out the user hard deleted the items (used SHIFT+DELETE) when clearing them out. In this case, the Recovery window is empty. Not to fret, there are a couple of workarounds.

Submitted by erichagstrom on Wed, 07/29/2009 - 2:57pm.I received this error when I tried to automatically activate my Windows 2008 server today. I found the following in the past, and despite a different error code, the procedure worked flawlessly. Bear in mind here that I am using legit media, and keys. From Smokey's post
